Here’s my keystone speech…..
I’m six years old, sitting around a table with other pre-schoolers in Sunday school. The teacher is going around the circle asking everyone if Jesus is in their heart. Finally, she gets to me.
“Jonathan, is Jesus in your heart?” she asks.
Instantly, I say “yes,” giving the reflexive, expected answer. But then I pause. I look around, building dramatic tension, then with a smile bursting upon my face I proudly announce to the class, “and Popeye too!”
Why would I have said that? For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been drawn to imagination, stories, play, humor, asking the BIG questions, and then searching for those answers. These were some of the approaches I used, and continue to use, to understand and move through the health issues I’ve faced. Popeye was one of many “characters” I used over the years to connect with the resources within myself, within my heart.
Through every health issue I brought a sense of humor, of play, and the use of massive amounts of imagination. This is how I Operate From the Heart. When I use the phrase “Operate From the Heart,” what I’m referring to is connecting to our core self, our higher self. It’s the part that is beyond ego, already has the answers we seek, is infinite, knows vulnerability is strength, easily connects with others, and for me, it’s the part that knows we are much more than any issue we could ever have.
